Bruno Wacogne was born in Besançon, France, on 23 March 1966. He received his PhD degree in optoelectronics in 1993 from the University of Franche-Comté, France. His PhD dissertation was on tunable external cavity laser diodes using electrooptic properties of LiNbO3 and nematic liquid crystals. From 1990 to 1993, he was with the Laboratoire d’Optique P.M. Duffieux, Université de Franche-Comté. During 1993–1994, he was research fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton (UK), where his research interests concerned high frequency acoustooptic interaction in graded index media by using ZnO transducers grown by RF planar sputtering. From 1995 to 1996, he was research fellow at the Physics Laboratory, University of Kent, Canterbury (UK) where he worked on multi-gigabit telecommunication systems, and secure transmission. In 1996, he joined the Laboratoire d’Optique P.M. Duffieux (now Dprt of Optics of the FEMTO-ST Institute), Université de Franche-Comté, France, as a CNRS researcher. His activities in this laboratory initially dealt with secure transmissions by coded coherence modulation, integrated optics, and rare earth doped micro-components. A few years ago, he started to work on the use of microoptics and microtechniques for biomedical applications.
